With an explosion in podcast consumption and an ever growing audience year on year. The ABC listen App required an experience overhaul that kicked off in early 2021.
I helped redefine the App from the ground up by creating a digital identity inspired by the Braun RT 20 radio. I took the radio designed in the 1960s by Dieter Rams and used it to inform the creative direction of both mobile and tablet Apps. I leant on the idea of a 'mantlepiece radio' throughout the project to help guide product experience decisions.
This work is now being adopted by other teams, becoming a more global way to present audio to ABC users.

The problems we're all trying to solve, for the most part, have already been solved. Being aware of what has come before us is important. Using products created in a pre-digital world can be a powerful way to inspire simplicity.
This project commenced during the pandemic. I realised I am a better creative problem solver in the evening.
